War Memorial Museum

Today started with Otto and Tim throwing a ball back and forth between the beds and of course Tim had to add challenge to game by making it one-handed. The best part is they got the furthest when they were deep in conversation and not trying so hard. I think they got up to twenty something. heading back to Iteawon where we had Thai food last night so Tim could trade some books at the English book store. Otto found his all time favorite book there:
We had a crummy meal which makes me crabby while on vacation. Itaewon really does have many people who are not Korean which is strange because EVERYWHERE else you go is almost exclusively Koreans. Then we headed to the War Memorial of Korea where Otto and Tim enjoyed themselves immensely. They read all the plaques at the indoor exhibits (while I sat at a table and did crosswords):
There are lots of interactive things to do, movies to watch and what feels different than Minnesota is that you are right where the attacks actually happened (Incheon and Seoul) as opposed to reading about something that happened somewhere else. Here are the plaques listing Americans who died in the Korean war by state, MN got about 1 plaque, CA got 4.
Koreans who died got a whole other hallway. Looked at smaller scale wooden warship models:
but the real joy was the outdoor playground of all kinds of tanks, warplanes, rocket launchers, artillery (Tim's helping me here) even a B52 that you could go in and play:
And a ship that was involved in a naval battle against North Korea with real bullet holes:
Otto was in heaven partly because he could actually run around and partly because he could go play in tanks. We didn't attempt to move him out just hung out and let him play. Then we had spaghetti (Tim ate my and Otto's shrimp!) and took a picture of Otto at choir:
We came home to Otto's new favorite show - Looney Toons. There is a pc in our hotel room that has the internet and Otto has youtubed Wile E. Coyote, Yosemite Sam, Tom and Jerry and of course Bugs. Even Tim and I are laughing along.

the inside of the B52 was incredible. It looked like a tank, not an airplane. Great photo story, Em.

Otto mugging like the poster was pretty darn cute, too.
