Gwangjang Market

Today we slept in then woke up and headed to Gwangjang Market where they sell mung bean pancakes. The market is very crowded with stalls but they seem to be very repetitive - mung bean pancakes, fish supplies, bibimbap (including pig parts such as heads, snouts and feet) or fried sandwiches.
Here is a picture of the mung beans being ground into paste: and the batter which has scallions and lots of bean sprouts. Note the bag of chopped onions in front - it was served with onions in soy sauce and kim chee:
Fried in corn oil to perfection and eaten with onion happily by me! I am making that face because it is piping hot but I ate it anyway.
Here is a money picture as requested by Molly - the pancake which was very reminicent of latkes cost 5000 won which is about $5.
Tim really wanted to find meat on a stick to no avail although he could have had pig...
Instead he ate a fried sandwich with copious butter and served in a cup. It cost $1.50
then we cooled off with a strawberry or kiwi slushy:
Notice the haze everywhere? There is this pea soup humidity surrounding Seoul but it was better right down below in the Cheonge-gye-chong, a below street level stream with paths and plants on both sides and many rock stepping stone places to cross.
Otto played at every crossing, watched the little, medium and large fish swim, splashed a little and generally had a good time. Here is real life opposite Swimmy:
We did some shopping in an upscale department store - Doota - and took this picture of Dongdaemun Design Plaza still under construction. We couldn't tell what will be inside but the garden was beautiful and Tim liked watching the tile setters laying tile in the bottom left of the photo though he wished he could get closer.
The construction site was surrounded by faux grass - did Otto trick you? We thought Grammie would approve of today's colorful clothing... Cooling off with a little ice cream and banana milk:
Seoul markets are built around these gates that used to all connect through the fortress wall that is now mostly gone. Here is the gate by Dungdaemon.
After a brief rest and clean up we're headed to the international Itaewon for dinner tonight...

Is that drink called "Pocari Sweat"?? How refreshing!! I love that Otto is surrounded by rocks and water. Cup sandwich? It doesn't get any better than that! Yay for the internets - I feel like I'm not missing a thing!
